Seeded Speedrun Races on Twitch this weekend!
« on: August 01, 2018, 07:29:16 PM »

(Original post by b_sen on r/Cogmind)

On the roguelikes discord, we've been organizing a lot of informal speedrunning races over the past few weeks, which have been a lot of fun for a lot of the regulars there (and got mentioned on one of the latest SITREP's).

This week we're going to have a streamed simulcast of two of the runners in the race, Malthusis and Decinym, which I'll be providing commentary for. (The simulcast will be set up so that newbies and non-speedrunners can understand it, so do not fear inscrutable play. :) ) We'll be starting around 2pm EDT this Saturday, over at https://www.twitch.tv/b_s3n , if anyone wants to watch and join in the fun.

Malthusis' stream is https://www.twitch.tv/cartesian717/
and Decinym's is https://www.twitch.tv/decinym

The format is relatively simple: every player is given the same seed, and whoever gets an ending in the fastest in game turns wins, with no resets. If no one gets an ending (which hasn't happened in the 14 runs we've had), fastest person to -1 wins, and so on and so forth. After everyone is done their run, they submit the end score sheet the game prints out as verification, so streaming is hardly required or needed, we've had 5 man races without any issue.

Here's the results of the previous races, for reference: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1YFk6M-MlgiQTrj-LKh5XhIMt6sQcDLi3xcN6lINELfA/edit#gid=0
