This week's seed: Recycling Vacation


The Weekly Seed is open to anyone. High scores are not the only feature of the runs and the main reason for putting this together is to share our experiences, stories, and tactics over the course of your run.

Rules are as follows:
  • The Weekly Seed begins from the date this thread is posted and lasts about seven days.
  • Make sure you are running the correct version of Cogmind (see thread subject).
  • Enter the seed and abort your current game to initiate the seed (more details are below).
  • Verify you are not running the tutorial and that the screenshot below of the Scrapyard and Level -10 matches your seed
  • Play through the game once. This is a friendly competition and we are all honest people.
  • When finished post your scoresheet here (it should be the newest file in /scores) and any other screenshots/stories/strategies you wish to share with the community.
  • Due to the spoilerific nature of this thread do not read the comments if you are intending to participate and haven't played your run!
  • Any scoresheets submitted after seven days will not be included.
  • Good luck!

Press F1 to go to the MENU, select OPTIONS, select Seed, and enter this week's seed:




Select GAME, select ABORT:




If you have followed the steps [Manual seed applied: Recycling Vacation] should display in the log window.

also the a...all together it's more fun to play without going to be easy.

Going to stream this seed tomorrow at the usual time, 10:30 PM EST (Tuesday 12/22). We're going to go with a full offensive build. Weapons. Weapons as far as the eye can see... (and robot corpses, those too)

These are the highlights of my brief run. I've been away from the game and I'm still unskilled, so predictable result. But I do keep coming back. :)

That initial explosion set the tone, I think. But maybe my biggest mistake was trying to destroy the garrison, especially before I really had the other hostiles off me and had a chance to recover. They just kept pouring out. :D Working as intended!

The stream went quite well, though I ended up dying to some tactical mistakes in the opening area of -3. (But I still gave them hell for it :P)

Ended up with 9 weapon slots in all. Very deadly.

Things would have gone completely differently if either 1) I hadn't underestimated the first squad of Swarmers I faced out in the open, 2) I had a launcher of some kind, or 3) they hadn't had a second garrison backing them up not far away.

The entire run was recorded here, and we visited some of the areas new in Alpha 5. (I put that segment in the highlights, too.) New areas = spoilers, of course.

On my phone so no log.  Got to -4 with an abnormally low score for that depth of 5k.  I found the exits on -7, -6, -5 in no time.  On the bright side this meant low security level on -4.  On the downside I was under geared.

I was using 5 weapons by the end.  Very fun and a noticeable power boost but it didn't feel overpowered.  Death came when I got caught in the open by a swarmer squad, a grunt squad with a rogue, a programmer dispatch, and all of this near a garrison so more bots kept joining the party.  Fighting in the open = death.  I really hope blinking/teleporting a la crawl becomes a (costly) option in the future.

I reached Cetus, cleared it and read the records (!). Then I entered a garrison on -4 I think and cleared a fair bit of it before leaving. I couldn't find the stairs on -3 so I died, but I took a lot of dudes with me. I took a lot of screenshots but they'll be staying on my hdd. It was mostly to document the run.

Next seed is coming tomorrow. Slightly delayed because this game in progress needed to be finished. This was my highest scoring game since the tournament.

I took a leaf out of Decker's book and went pretty heavy on propulsion for armour. It worked pretty well.

Halfway through -3 I ran into a dead end (locked exit). I was still in good shape at the time so if this happened in the future with that branch I might've been able to extend this a lot further!

The fact that I watched some of Kyzrati's run didn't seem to have an impact. I completely forgot about it until I got ambushed by swarmers at the start of -4 (I think). Fortunately I had a launcher! I entered into that garrison that K was trying to get in (the upper one).

edit: Also, went and cleared the chute trap area.

Interesting loadout with a fairly even mix of slots. You hung out on Research for quite a while there.

-3 was where I died to the early swarmers and garrison troubles. That was where I really should've either retreated a bit from the swarmers, charged them, or gone into that first garrison. I definitely learned some lessons there!

I see you stayed in the Cetus for a good while, even presumably into the security sweep. On your way out you did you have that other NPC encounter I mentioned in the stream? Still have to look into why it didn't trigger in my own run...

No, I won't. What I've been doing is locking threads for old versions only after a new version is out. I always keep all current-version threads open in case someone wants to come in later. (5c is essentially the same thing as 5b, and seeds are even compatible, so no change here.)
