Looks like a nice party, 3 red bottle drinkers and only you drinking a blue one. That can initiate a world conflict :)
I like a clean design, but I'm not sure if buttons are big enough for phone players, otherwise great!

There are no txt files in my workflow since initial move, hurray! ... but I'm sure it is great for new users when they move to xp files too.

I'd like you to put labels below what these things are, again I like something but can't even name it :)
I'm talking about left most, middle row one. Looks to me like a wifi router  ;D

Thanks, you were absolutely right :)
Indeed animated background was not only very distracting but also
because of even/odd pattern it caused annoying flickering.

Sad to say that player, but...

It still needs some polishing, but first I have to animate it from code (flames and in/out transitions).
I wonder if the fog instead of already exploited scrolling could be ganereated / animated procedurally :)

While working on a menu system for my tiny game, I've decided to allow player to choose an avatar.
I've painted in RP just 6 faces, but then I've come up with idea of mixing parts of these faces together.

Mixing these 6 faces gives 1296 mutations :)

Above is a raw asset in 2 modes (color & b/w as everything in ascii patrol).
Here is animated gif link: http://ascii-patrol.com/menu.gif

Everything REXPaint / Big text mode
« on: March 23, 2016, 12:50:37 PM »
While working with RP on the a-p screens, some cool thing came up to my mind.
Text tool with 2 modes: small, big and big-inverted. Similar to Paste command with its flipping modes.
Small mode is what we currently have, the big one could use active glyph/fg_color/bg_color & mask to 'rasterize' big characters using currently selected font PNG (threshold on alpha/luminance?). In inverted mode glyph could be rasterized with negative 'alpha'.
I know, no updates are planned soon :) so I report it just in case my grandchildren would like to use RP some day  ;D

Below what i mean by 'rasterizing':

Nice to know there is a vision for making rp update :) even if in a far * future.

Rotated desktop (portrait mode via nvcpl) helped to launch rex with a bit bigger fonts :) - just in case someone would like to use ie: 8x16 fonts on 1600x900 desktop :) ( of course question remains open )

Everything REXPaint / Large fonts
« on: March 15, 2016, 03:12:25 PM »
I'm on a small screen laptop right now, but still want to view xp images in RP using big fonts.
RP complains about loading them as it could not fit window (incl. all UI in large font) on my tiny desktop.

Is there any work around to force RP to use such font, even if window would blow outside of screen?

I made a quick look into their code, Seams they don't read width and height of every layer. (they all are identical but must be parsed out from file).

116
Yeah, contour (fg) coloring :)
That is exactly what I've done programmatically, before I found rexpaint.
That was fail number 1, made my game extremely hard to play as fast moving color contours are
nearly invisible (light colors) or completely uncolored (dark colors).

... now when comparing these images, 'hollow' version starts convincing me back to it :)

few ours later, found out that blocky version but using dk-cyan instead of bk-gray works pretty well :)

I'll try to rexpaint this problem :)

So initially i've used original b/w wheels but they appear too hollow when compared with everything else after coloring.
Descided then to fill what's possible with dk-gray, but it looked too blocky.
Ended now with fu%%y attempt which indeed looks way odd  :P

I'd love to see if anyone can suggest something in this area  ;D

Hey, good news from ap!
After weeks of struggling with colorization, finaly have something looking well, hmmm... acceptable :)
Previously I didn't realize how much effort it will consume, and it is still  far from b/w quality.
Few quirks remained unsolved, ie: fuzzy wheels but at the moment I don't have idea how should I proceed with them.

Below I've got a giffed footage, you can pick a frame from it as a thumbnail update for projects page.

Finally, background theme is light-gray ( I'm sorry about that  ;) ), it allows me to make more pleasant less saturated dot and percent color mixtures :)

Thank you for your kind words :)
Probably truck will be removed from title screen making some space for more decent 'ascii' word.
In turn it will appear in some kinda cut scenes.

Thanks for adding it to gallery!

How about releasing RP under some Open Source License? It would make many developers happy by enabling them to add / customize editor for their needs.

Another option is to settle RP2 on top of some scripting language with ability to add ui items and tools + procedural painting :)

Option 2 would suit better my needs but requires big amount of rework so we couldn't expect such relesase too soon I guess.

Option 1 requires only single decision :)

Just notticed image on project page is seam carved, looks great. Done manually or have a tool for it?

That's mp4 not a gif, I've posted 2 links somewhere above already :)
