General Discussion / Re: Tiles Mode

That's pretty weird, I play with 1280x768 and by default I have tiles and font of size 12.

General Discussion / Re: Tiles Version Color

It seems like a good idea but believe me It might not work like you want It to.

Tiles provide more visual information than It seems. Adding more colors to them would add a lot to the noise - distracting more than doing any good.

Also, like Kyzrati wrote - colors represent rating, while category is represented by the tile's symbol/look. If they aren't recognisable easily the icons are the problem - all information should be there, packed and ready for your eye to read.

At my screen size I can only have 10-sized font. I started with tiles, but it is very hard to distinguish items when they are that small, so I had to revert to ascii and now I am invested in it too much and unlikely to go back to tiles as primary display mode..

I totally understand, thanks for sharing that. :)
May I ask you what screen resolution do you have on your screen?

General & Off-Topic / New Emoticons
« on: June 04, 2015, 02:21:16 PM »
It was actually Maurog who originally pointed out in the Forum Feedback thread how awful default emoticons look. I think we can do something with that and I want to work on some replacement for them.

Whenever I'll have anything I'll post It here for everyone to see. :) If you have any ideas/suggestions/propositions of your own put them in this thread. I'd love to read how you'd like them to look.

As the process of tiles creation is still on-going and our community is alive an constantly growing we'd like to know your opinion about Cogmind's Tiles Mode.

Everything from the reasons you use It (or not) to pointing single sprites with positive or negative feeling will be very much appreciated.

That's a really nice build there. :D The best part was where you wrote about charging through a few rooms just to have to recharge and cool down after a moment, also you were super sick fast. :O

Did you fight a lot or tried to avoid and ran away?

The smileys are quite horrible, look badly cropped without an alpha channel and clash with the sleek forum design.

If only you had some sort of awesome pixel artist who excels at drawing tiny Cogmind-themed sprites...

We'll see. :)

Strategies / Re: Play Style
« on: May 20, 2015, 02:31:30 PM »
It might not seem like the most sophisticated strategy but while I also play stealthy (I think there is not really an option to play Cogmind fully non-stealthy) I try to find as many explosive weapons as I can, as fast as I can.
After that I sneak around as long as I can and If someone spots me I start blowing everything up until he's gone. :D

Blunt but fun, sadly I didn't help me to get further than the third level.  :(

Also I don't recommend relying strongly on miner weapons that allow you to dig through the walls - It will get you killed quickly on further levels.

Hello everyone, I'm the artist behind Cogmind graphical tileset. :)

Before Cogmind I already knew a bit about rougelike genre but first time I really dived into one of the titles were when I found an Android Brogue port called Pixel Dungeon. It was merely a coincidence since I were looking for any pixel art game then but man, how lucky I were to bump into this one. :D
I played It for countless hours before moving on, after that I tried a bit of classic Brogue, Dwarf Fortress and more rougelike-like Red Rogue but at the moment none of them were able to make me stay for long.

I think It was Ben "Eigenbom" Porter that shared the tweet with a link to the job announcement on the Grid Sage Games blog. I still remember when I found that early in the morning and spend over 4h writing an e-mail, packing my best art and creating some tile samples that were required. After a few weeks of waiting, making more samples and dramatic turns we started the work. :)

Right now from rougelike genre I don't play any other game than Cogmind, It sounds like an advertisement but It's true. :D

From my other favorite games I'd list Dragon Age: Origins, World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, inFamous I & II, Castlevania series for Nintendo DS (all three games) and pen'n'paper D&D 3.5 edition. :)

In the more serious parts of my life I make pixel art and learn programming. I'm quiet passionate about game development and I spend as much time as I can reading, watching videos and thinking about It.
