General Discussion / Re: First Recorded Win Per Build Compilation
« on: May 25, 2015, 11:11:30 AM »
Haha, and here I saw this thread pop up and was like someone won already?! Not that it's impossible with some dedication and (this early) probably focusing on a very specific strategy, but still ;)
Nah, still waiting on my card. I figured it'd be better to have this up before somebody wins so they know to screencap it. Wouldn't want anybody lamenting a win.

I'll certainly be vying for a spot once I can though.

General Discussion / First Recorded Win Per Build Compilation

I figured it's best to start this early on.

Record a win and I'll update the post with the version number and your name. Since not everybody goes to the forums this'll be limited to our little community. Still, should be fun. If there are people who've won already I'll figure something out for you.

Post proof of winnings, probably a screenshot and I'll add your name to the list. A mod or something can edit these posts in case I die. I'll tidy this post up soon.

PS: No more than 3 dev stages please ;D

Another idea: the game could record your last ~100 moves so you can replay them upon death to see where you took the wrong action :)
I would love to make complete replays available, and I've tried it with the engine before, but it's not completely reliable due to how some of the game logic is build directly into the animation system :'(
Can that logic be realistically moved? Or at the very least recomputed during the replay somehow?

One of my favorite features in games is full replays. They add a lot to contest runs like in Brogue and score runs in games like Touhou.

No need to die all at once.

Bits of the UI could go away one at a time, ending with the view port then final messages before fading altogether would be immersive.

General Discussion / Looking for 7DRL Comparisons
« on: May 22, 2015, 05:41:40 PM »
I've had a squabble with my bank and I'll probably be unable to get the game for another few days. My finances are fine, there was just a mix-up with my card.

Anyhoo, I'm hoping some people who've played the 7DRL can give me a rundown on how differently it plays while I twiddle my thumbs. I've read the blogs and whatnot, but some first hand accounts would be fabulous. I've played the 7DRL so using that as a reference point would be great.

Any new features that are particularly fun? Anything that still feels the same? Anything worse?

Ideas / Re: Toggle auto-melee?

But accidentally doing stupid things that you have only yourself to blame for is what roguelikes are all about!
I completely disagree about the accidentally bit. Doing anything you didn't want to do shouldn't be an accepted form of error. Unintended consequences of your actions? Those are great. Performing actions you didn't want to isn't.

It's on him for making the mistake, but that doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement on the games end.

General & Off-Topic / Re: Introduce Yourself!

Just got the email and signed up for the forums. I'll be getting the game as soon as I finish reading all the material on it and writing this post.

- How did you learn about Cogmind?
I found out about Cogmind a few weeks ago and was skeptical after seeing the level layouts. Played the 7drl and found I had worried for nothing.

- What other roguelikes do you enjoy?
I play a lot of Brogue, and I played a lot of DoomRL and Sil before I decided I needed a new computer that came without a numpad. I'm looking forward to Caves of Qud's public steam beta as it will be the first update in years.
I've tried to get into DCSS, Tome 4, and Angband. For some reason they strike me as really bland. Autoexplore + tab/damage hotkey is very mentally numbing.
Brogue is my favorite roguelike by a mile.

- What are your other favorite games?
I play so many games in so many genres asking for favorites isn't fair :P
Recently I've been playing MH4U, Elements the Game, and running a D&D campaign. I've been thinking of diving back into pokemon as well.

- What do you do for fun when you're not playing games?
For fun I'm working on a few tabletop games at the moment. One of which I'd like to become more than a hobby project. I'm also planning on doing a thru-hike of the Appalachian trail next year, so a bit of my time is spent preparing for that.
