Yeah, I would agree there that neither shot is really necessary, though it helps to be able to visually confirm that you're in the right place, since slight spelling errors/typos are more likely to go unnoticed than a complete picture. Still, maybe cut out the images entirely then? I guess players wanting to participate should be vigilant in confirming that the seed has been entered correctly.

Yes, honestly I am handicapping myself there. It was mostly because I felt uncertain of a hacking run due to the problems I had obtaining hackware last week. This time I had plenty of hackware, but I found that my slot distribution was pretty messed up later on...

I really need to not do that next time, and instead build a real hacker from the start.

Not the best run, but I saw some new things.  Spoiler heavy, so I'll just spoiler the entire summary:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)It began as a typical run and I was in pretty good shape by -8.  Found storage early on and went in hoping for some drones or regenerative armor.  Instead I quickly found the entrance to Recycling.  Never been in there before, so I decided to pop in.  It seemed like the caches were better than storage maybe, but a lot of the items were partly damaged.  The little drones sending out warning signals also freaked me out - i assume they raise the security level on the next level?.  Not sure I'll go back into recycling in future runs, but I have the feeling there's some secrets there that I have yet to uncover.

The seeds of my demise were planted on -7.  I instantly fell into a chute trap and got the derelict army event.  I go back to -7 and hit an ambush trap.  Instead of hostiles, I get the... derelict squad event.  I now have a large army and can see where this is headed.  I'm pretty well equipped and my entourage is one shotting all hostiles.  Predictably, the security level spikes to about 4.  After two programmer dispatches and the second ARC, my friends are dead but the AI is still extremely pissed.  I get to -4 naked and then get splatted.  I was briefly at security level 5, which I think I've never reached before during serious play. Frickin' allies.  I'm going to seriously consider telling all my chute allies to just explore next time I get them.

You spent a good part of the game on fairly high alert! A combination of both your intentional detour and large number of friends ;). Spoiler (click to show/hide)And you're right about what the Spotter drones are doing (that's what I was trying to have the message imply). You do have a precious moment in which to kill them before they report, though.
Allies can surely be a double-edged sword you may not always want. Working with them requires a different play style, but in most cases you'll need to be ready for the security spike. That said, there is an ever-increasing number of sources of allies, and eventually getting through much of the game with them should be a possibility.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)Yeah I think everyone is going to quickly pick up on what spotter drones do.  I imagine the solution to them is AOE weapons.  They're tiny so there's a huge accuracy penalty, and I doubt they have much integrity so I bet the average AOE weapon even at the point in the game will one shot them.

I have to do some more poking around recycling.  Based on my limited time there, I can't imagine why any one would want to go there.  That most likely means I missed something.  Also still need to see extension and beyond!
In other news, the nerf to tunneling is palpable.  In  a separate game, I hacked the stairs on -5 and made a beeline to them.  The path I was going down turned out to be a dead end, but I was maybe 10 tiles away from the stairs.  I began burrowing towards it with a matter neutralizer, forgetting about the change.  This prompted at least 3 cave-ins on me.  Ouch.

So yeah, the new lesson is: don't do that. There are still multiple ways to tunnel effectively, but firing a cannon in a fresh tunnel is not one of them, heh.
