This week's seed: Hype Train

Alpha 14 is coming. All aboard the Hype Train!

The Weekly Seed is open to anyone, and we encourage you to share your experiences, stories, and tactics over the course of your run.

The rules are as follows:
  • The Weekly Seed begins from the date this thread is posted and lasts about seven days.
  • Make sure you are running the correct version of Cogmind (see thread subject).
  • Enter the seed and abort your current game to initiate the seed (more details are below).
  • Verify you are not running the tutorial and that the screenshots below match your game.
  • Play through the game once. This is a friendly event and we are all honest people.
  • When finished, post your scoresheet here (it should be the newest file in /scores) and any other screenshots/stories/strategies you wish to share with the community.
  • If you want to share details about the seed or your approach, make sure you use spoiler tags.
  • Due to the spoilerific nature of this thread, be sure to avoid reading details about the seed if you haven't completed your run.

I would but I've been in another city all weekend and Alpha 14 is literally around the corner so I don't want to go to the trouble of recording something that will get outdated in a sense within a few days!

Definitely hyped up for the next update! As for this run, it didn't go very well. :P

I was trying out combat build this time but with a bit of hacking suite. I thought it's a good concept because with a load of storage units, you'll have plenty of backup weapons, and with hacking suite, you'll find the exit and control the alert level more easily. With just 3 hacking suite, I got to find whatever schematics I want (adv. hacking suite, weapon cycler, adv. force field, energy well, etc.), and fabricate with high percentage rate.  :D

One of the problems is that I forgot to upgrade my power slot. I ran out of energy pretty quickly with energy weapons! And when I switched over to kinetic weapons, I ran out of matter! And as if that's not enough, my stray shots kept hitting those engineers which kept calling for reinforcements after reinforcements. I think they called out 3-4 times in a row. By that point, I was like, "I should've went into a room to fight instead of the hallway!"

And then the final nail to my coffin: Not going naked early enough. I waited until I had ~200 health left before I started to run. And that was when a huge mob of enemies was already surrounding me, so I couldn't run far enough before I died by the hunters. It's a little sad that I fell apart too early, but it was fun trying out something a bit new.

P.S. Can the "Go Naked" command (Shift+Alt+P) not strip off equipments like propulsions and processors? They don't use up any mass, so they can at least provide some protection while running away.

That's a... pretty interesting build you have there! Only one power slot can be a problem that late, for sure. And fighting in rooms is always a good idea unless you are confident you can take out all attackers in a very short period (either through overwhelming firepower, explosives, or just plain good aim).

It's always a tough choice whether or not to go naked, since the earlier you do it the better your chances of survival, but then you also give up the chance to overcome the challenges and rebuild right there.

Hm, a pretty good point, although I dunno. While it makes total sense from a gameplay mechanics perspective, it also doesn't fit in thematically, not to mention the current behavior kind of acts as a "price to pay" for getting to drop everything in a single turn to give you a chance to quickly escape. Well, I guess you also pay a price simply because you're dropping useful stuff, but... this is an extra price :P

I'm kind of on the fence about that command not dropping 0-mass parts.

It's a pretty steep price if you're at the higher floor since it takes a lot of time to rebuild yourself, but I can imagine it's still possible to win. And now that you mentioned about the thematic perspective, it probably makes more sense to keep it unchanged. Otherwise, it wouldn't be called "Go Naked", though you can rename it to "Go Weightless" or "Go Unburdened" (though they don't sound that good).

Yeah it is a bit tougher higher up, but that's also where it's more fun because you have so many slots and before long (assuming you weren't tracked down and destroyed) you're attaching everything and anything in sight and get to use some parts you might not normally use!
