This week's seed: Dangers Deep

Who knows what dark terrors await you...

The Weekly Seed is open to anyone, and we encourage you to share your experiences, stories, and tactics over the course of your run.

The rules are as follows:
  • The Weekly Seed begins from the date this thread is posted and lasts about seven days.
  • Make sure you are running the correct version of Cogmind (see thread subject).
  • Enter the seed and abort your current game to initiate the seed (more details are below).
  • Verify you are not running the tutorial and that the screenshots below match your game.
  • Play through the game once. This is a friendly event and we are all honest people.
  • When finished, post your scoresheet here (it should be the newest file in /scores) and any other screenshots/stories/strategies you wish to share with the community.
  • If you want to share details about the seed or your approach, make sure you use spoiler tags.
  • Due to the spoilerific nature of this thread, be sure to avoid reading details about the seed if you haven't completed your run.

HOW TO ENTER A SEED

Press F1 to go to the MENU, select OPTIONS, select Seed, and enter this week's seed:




Select GAME, select ABORT:




If you have followed the steps [Manual seed applied: Dangers Deep] should display in the log window.

My run didn't last very long, but at least I was able to get to the Mines and find companions. They didn't last too long either! :)

I know I'm supposed to avoid killing as much as possible, but I keep bumping into these hostiles. Since they follow me, I don't feel like I can avoid them much. Then the amount of hostiles just goes up and up and I die pretty early :P

I scored 2254 points and was destroyed on Materials -8

Pretty terrible run, kept bumbling into squads, fighting them, attracting more squads, then fighting them too. Died getting corned in Lower Caves after I got swamped in -7 and had to bail into the nearest stairs. Normally I'd be about 4 levels deeper with this number of Robots Destroyed lol.

Worst seed run I ever had. I died at -10 Mines.  ;D ;D ;D

I entered Mines when I had ~50 core health left (from attracting too many grunts and swarmers), but I was like, "I can do this. Mines are pretty easy now, right?"

At the end, I was able to run away (awesome!). The grenadiers picked off most of the assembles, but only two are still alive. Since they're just two, I was like, "That's easy! pew pew pew." And then I died.  ;D Whoops!

BTW, I killed a bunch of robots in the beginning because I saw there's 2 whole columns of shock traps in one hallway, and that's the only hallway to progress, so I ended up shooting a lot of workers using EM guns to cause chain reaction:

Well, I haven't been able to stream due to being sick and/or out of town, so this week I played the seed on my own. Damn Alpha 13 is a lot of fun--wish I could've shared all my thoughts at the time on Twitch! Anyway, I did do some screenshots...


Materials was uneventful, though the Mines I went through had quite a lot going on. No problem there, just enjoying the different encounters (one of which left me with a nice Beamcaster which was great to have so early, especially in combination with my 4-weapon start).

The action started at -7, where I decided to head into a Factory garrison because magi163 seems to be having so much fun there.

Of course I triggered an alarm as soon as I entered, then shortly after stepped on a bomb while fighting off enemies from my cover, completely obliterating my cover xD

I made a pretty big mess, but only cleared about half of it before making it out from the first exit! It was a fun little side trip that helped lower resistance back on the main floor, which was noticeably helpful, so worth it overall.

Back in -7/Factory my favorite part was where I was minding my own business amidst a giant array of reactors and my Gauss Cannon decided to misfire...

From -6 I made sure to enter the caves, because that's where a log in the Mines told me where Zion would be. I brought a couple of drones with me to scout ahead, and the first dutifully mapped out half of the first cave before having its sole hover unit ripped off by a thief :P. I felt a lot less safe in the second cave area without my scouts... Scrap was definitely helpful, though! Picked up a Hvy. Rocket Launcher in one, and another gave me both an Adv. Sensor Array and Enh. Optical Array, so I attached both and snuck my way into Zion :)

On my way out of Zion of course my friends and I run into a Behemoth, but the sensors saved the day there since I was able to find a way to tunnel around it.

I had quite a lot of random useful stuff in my inventory, that's for sure. (This was just before I was about to extract that Proton Bomb Trap for... my own uses ;))

This is where my lone friend walked right up to an Assassin and outright melted the thing <3 (Oh, and my legs were shabby and I didn't have any replacements, so that giant pile of shiny treads looked mighty nice. I was walking overweight most of the time, anyway--TANK OF DEATH TIME!)

By Research I was stealthy treading death. By the time they spotted me, they were staring down the barrels of several cannons.

And as if I couldn't get stealthier, I lost my jammer but gained a Triangulator. Got to use all the new toys this run :D

My main problem was staying cool because I didn't have enough slots for it, so longer fights didn't go so well and I decided to drop the interpreter for another heat sink. I also discovered that it's very satisfying to watch that TRACKING number go down as I take out pursuers, too.

I hung out on -3 so long that things started to get weird and I was datajacking... Figured I may as well put to use fthe hackware I'd been carrying around. Combined with a couple of EM weapons, I was basically able to reboot and destroy everything that came into sight.

Got some assaults called down on me and here was where I was thinking I've been hanging around at this depth for a little to long! (Couldn't help it, was too much fun running around causing chaos--wasn't even searching for an exit :P)

What to do next was a tough decision, since I should probably upgrade propulsion if I want to keep flying, but I was also having power problems. I've done that many legs before, so I went with +1 propulsion and +1 utility. So I'm heading into -2 as a flier, but it's really unfortunate I had to ditch my hackware to attach spare armor to survive the later onslaughts, so I'm a hackless flier xD

Okay, so flight lasted about 3 minutes into -3, because I summoned some friends who cleared out a Sentry guarding a cache of pretty legs. Basically, we're back in the business of blowing stuff up. "You guys guard the door while I gear up here..."

And our first bit of company! About face, legged squad of death--time to destroy some Unaware. (I didn't get off a single shot, as they killed everything that popped out before it could even open fire.)

As expected it was a terrible idea to continue traveling along the route with all the patrols, as that plus the assaults kept pounding on me and I ended up having to run for it after losing all my... everything xD. BUT! I entered this room with full matter and it looked like maybe I could make a last stand and potentially rebuild? (Definitely not from what won't be left of my pursuers, though...)

The main thing I was worried about was the Archangel, which could intercept the bombs, but it only got one of them, so two volleys, six bombs later and everything inside and outside the room was toast ;)

I did manage to rebuild a bit before attracting too much attention (yes, in the same area...) and also getting more programmers dispatched, but I also found some new sources of AOE destruction :D. Decided it would be more fun to fight the losing battle than try to hightail it again.

Oh well, I know I could've played better but it was a fun run, in any case. That and as you can see the build I used was all over the place! And I beat my previous score by like... 30 points :P

Morgue is a bit spoilery if you look at the bonus breakdown and maybe the map progression.

I don't have the energy to do a full write-up, but I'll just say that I could've farmed a whole lot longer in Access if A14 weren't right around the corner. This build was broken strong... I'm not sure we'll see the likes of it again, especially considering the coming changes to high alert levels (high security).

Fun fact: This was my only A13 run, and directly followed my A12 90k high score run.

This one will no doubt go down in history :D

I only did one A13 run myself, which I sort of regret since that'll leave me without a win this round, but putting the effort into A14 has been more important!

237 to hack success is also unlikely to be beaten unless changes are introduced... or someone goes to a lot of trouble. There's no point getting that much right now unless you just want to beat how much I got :P
