And one more thing, RP uses special background color for transparency, eye-burning magenta: (255,0,255)

I didn't send a postcard for a long time, so posting an ascii-card here :)

Nah, i'm having creativity detox month  8)
No programming, no painting, trying to limit thinking too.
First week was really hard, but now I started to like it.
Ok, getting back to my statis  ;) cheers.

You can also make font of a 1px size with just 2 characters: space and dot. Possibilities are endless then!
(that is a joke of course)  ::)

@Kyzrati The Kitty png import thing should be considered as a part of next major RP release. Very handy indeed!

@thebracked I love the idea, I can think of a small improvement: user defined alpha ramp in form of simple string (for odd users not using full cp437, I know at least one such guy).

Agree, in small scale ascii, the importance of characters' shapes (font) increase dramatically. :)

@K: How is that in Cogmind? Also fixed size there?

:P i can sacrifice separate layer for metadata though.

Thanks Kyzrati!

I hope you could steal some your own browser's code for allowing 'advanced' ops on layers (even in a modal style) including collapsible groups like in photoshop ;)

Today I was struggling in RP with on-map mini version of AP's car, to show user's progress on that map.
Once the car was finished (6x3 cells), I couldn't stop, I have had to see if whole game could be done in such a nano scale. Here's the result (50x15), I kinda like it!

EDIT: and the actual way the nano-car is going to be used:

Wow, that's a lot of black and white (...)
Today it was the first time for me too to switch this mode interactively, I was kinda shocked, hehe.

@Mreuwu I can use only characters 0x20 - 0x7f (radical 7-bit ASCII), but yea - adding perspective should work here.

off-topic: I just realized where I would be with my game w/o RP, check it out:

@dagondev
Yea, I'm still considering hard covers but soft pages, but first I need to figure out how to convince my I eyes to see cover flipping on top instead of below the background :P

The main reason for dropping initial attempt was that cover rotation over empty background was usually perceived by my eyes in opposite direction as it should be - result of no shadow and no-perspective projection. (my eyes issue only? :P). Other than that, proceduraly stretched ascii didn't look pretty especially on white pages (noisy columns).

Here's the slowmo for comparision with first mockup.

EDIT: thanks to slowmo, found a bug, bending edge is incorrectly painted over cutouts (at the very beginning of right to left page flip animation).

Wow! That is great animation! Kudos for that.
It's bit oldish muckup made by hand in RP, frame by frame :),
Now, flipping pages are changed to look more like bending rather than rotating.

I'm glad you liked the old one, and I hope the new one as well, thanks!

It's me again, made a mockup of a gadget for my game tutorial.
Statistical player can't remember 5-keys controls, so I need a way to force him to use it for a while until real game-play begins.
Player needs to pass a 'safety check list' :)

Amazing stuff Dima3z!
And your artwork is way bigger than Cogmind's.  ;D
I like your shading style, it adds the volume to your images.

One approach to preserve compatibility: What if the config file could be used to specify a separate format, and all your files would be manipulated in that alternate format instead. That could accommodate any additional format requests, like meta data, without complexifying the main format. It adds a little complexity on the REXPaint side, but maybe it's doable without too much of a headache...

Interestring, as maybe, we are 'slowly' moving to mechanism which could allow external tools to have an access to RP runtime data. I'd love that!  ;D

Everything REXPaint / Optional meta-data saved with .xp files
« on: May 24, 2016, 05:20:44 PM »
As number of libraries supporting RP files is growing, I'd like to ask for a feature that could make use of such libraries in less/non invasive way.

In short I'd like to have option for embedding short text metadata along with xp file.

Some explanation:

Usualy files I have here, contains several slices, they are animation frames, b/w or color modes of same asset etc.
Because at the moment the is no option for saving any additional info to .xp I've came with idea of storing slicing info in first row of graphics. Then my batches are used to convert all these files to internal representation.
Also, I've considered placing metadata on separate layers but because we are limited to only 4 of them (I know it's just ui issue) there are a lot more better things to keep there.

If library could return metadata to me It would be a way for me to go with such library instead of my longer tool-chain.

Hmmm simple thing, why so much text to write? :)

Yep, stubble was quite nice side effect forced by colon-shading. Not so desirable for females. Big problem with different long hair is that it interferes with other horizontal face slices I use for face mixing. Btw, yesterday I finally found in RP manual how to merge layers (ctrl_shift_m), previously I was doing it with cut/paste - that was a nightmare :) It would be also nice to have ability of merging layers by pressing shift+ layer order arrows, it was my first intuitive try. Just something to consider while doing new RP interface in future :)

I'm in no way trying to dominate the gallery, I just like to share how cool things can be done with RP :)
Below game characters are chatting - hitec sms lol!
Btw, making ascii female avatar is at least 10x harder that making male portraits.
